Non-Lucrative Visa Spain from Kuwait: Step-by-Step Guide
How Kuwaiti nationals and residents can apply for Spanish residency through the Non-Lucrative Visa.
Kuwait has one of the highest per-capita incomes in the world, and an increasing number of Kuwaiti nationals and long-term residents are looking to establish a second residence in Europe. Spain — with its lifestyle, climate, culture, and safety — is consistently among the top choices. The Non-Lucrative Residence Visa is the most accessible route for Kuwaiti applicants who do not intend to work locally in Spain.
Why Spain Is Popular with Kuwaiti Nationals
Kuwaiti clients are drawn to Spain for its proximity to the Gulf (7-hour flight), the quality of private healthcare and education, the real estate market (particularly Madrid, Marbella, and Mallorca), the Mediterranean lifestyle, and the pathway to EU citizenship after 10 years. The Non-Lucrative Visa offers a straightforward entry point.
Financial Requirements
The main applicant must demonstrate approximately €28,800/year. For Kuwaiti clients, this is typically straightforward — the requirement is usually met through bank statements from Kuwaiti banks or investment portfolios. Documents from Kuwaiti banks must be officially translated into Spanish.
Applying at the Spanish Consulate in Kuwait
Applications are submitted at the Spanish Embassy in Kuwait City (Mishrif area). Required documents are the same as for all Non-Lucrative Visa applications: criminal record certificate (from Kuwait's Ministry of Interior, apostilled and translated), health insurance, proof of funds, proof of accommodation, and completed visa forms.
Apostille in Kuwait
Kuwait is a signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention. Documents issued in Kuwait (criminal record certificates, birth certificates, marriage certificates) can be apostilled through the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We coordinate this process for our clients and manage the Spanish translation.
After Arrival in Spain
Within 30 days of arrival in Spain, you must register with the local town hall (empadronamiento) and apply for your TIE (foreigner identity card). Your initial visa is valid for 1 year, renewable for 2-year periods. We handle all post-arrival administration.
