Non-Lucrative Visa Spain 2025: Updated Requirements and Financial Thresholds
The latest financial requirements, document checklist, and processing times for Spain's Non-Lucrative Residence Visa.
Spain's Non-Lucrative Residence Visa remains one of the most popular routes to European residency for Middle Eastern nationals. Each year, the Spanish government updates the financial thresholds based on the IPREM (Indicador Público de Renta de Efectos Múltiples). Here are the latest requirements for 2025.
2025 Financial Thresholds
The main applicant must demonstrate access to at least €28,800 per year (400% of the annual IPREM of €7,200). Each additional family member requires €7,200/year (100% of IPREM). These funds can be demonstrated through bank statements, investment portfolios, rental income evidence, or pension documentation. Funds do not need to be held in a Spanish bank.
Health Insurance Requirements
You must hold private health insurance from a company authorised to operate in Spain. The policy must cover all medical expenses with no co-payments or annual limits. Many Middle Eastern clients use international health insurance policies — we advise on which policies are accepted by Spanish consulates.
Criminal Record Certificates
You must provide a criminal record certificate from every country where you have resided in the past 5 years. For clients who have lived in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, or other Middle Eastern countries, we manage the apostille and certified translation of each certificate. The Hague Apostille Convention applies to most countries in the region.
Proof of Accommodation
You must demonstrate that you have a place to live in Spain. Acceptable evidence includes a rental contract (minimum 1 year), property ownership deed, or a letter of invitation from a Spanish resident (Carta de Invitación). We advise clients on the most straightforward accommodation strategy for their situation.
Processing Times in 2025
Processing times vary by consulate. In our experience, applications submitted through the Spanish Consulates in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Tehran, Istanbul, Riyadh, and Cairo currently take 6–14 weeks. We submit complete, well-prepared applications that minimise the risk of delays or requests for additional documentation.
